Penn Station in New York City is one of the busiest railroad stations in the United States, and the secret to its success is Sunnyside Yard in Jamaica, Queens. NJTransit trains that call on NYPenn pass through the station for staging in Sunnyside. Amtrak trains are staged, made up and serviced at Sunnyside. Long Island Rail Road trains add to the traffic density. It's a busy yard, one that's off limits to railfans and difficult to photograph from the city streets. John Kilbride spent a big part of his railroad career in and around Sunnyside and he'll give us an insider's look at a yard that has few rivals for activity. His program includes a map of the yard for everyone who attends.
As always, admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
