BAR Locomotive #44, EMD F3A

These 1500 HP locomotives were built between July, 1945 and November, 1949 and represent the classic cab units of main line railroading in the post war era.  F3's could be found in freight, passenger, and helper service.

Although over 1,100 F3A cab units and almost 700 F3B booster units were produced, almost all were scrapped because of an aggressive trade in policy introduced by the manufacturer in the late 1960's.

Tri-State's F3A is currently leased to the Anthracite Railroads Historical Society and is stored on the Winchester & Western Railroad.  It made its first appearance in July, 1993 as part of a classic A-B-A combination.

We are currently working to repaint this unit in the Lackawanna freight scheme.  Below is the unit as it appears now (Andrew Wisneski photo) and a photo of DL&W No. 621 in its as-built paint scheme (EMD photo).  Note that the stripes don't connect between the port holes, and that the jeweled number boards and the red bulls-eye headlight were not applied at the factory.
